Digger does the Devon County Show 2017

There is always something worth seeing plant and machinery related at these events and for many plant and machinery owners it’s a good chance to shout about their latest investments, by displaying them on the relevant dealer’s stands. I was delighted to see that the first new 8 tonne class Hanix N085uj to be sold into the West Country was on show on the Machineserve stand. This machine which we covered in a world exclusive “first drive” report on in Earthmovers Magazine has been purchased by WJ Ewings of Kingsbridge in Devon. I hope to catch up with them in the future for a follow up report. Another stand which was of interest was that of multi-faceted contractor Landmarc Environmental Engineering who had a variety of machines from its fleet for visitors to see including this Caterpillar 320E L  C/W Engcon tilt-rotator and Seppi M flail mower. Also on stand was one of the company’s new Volvo EC140E L hydraulic excavators which was also sporting an Engcon tilt-rotator and selector grab. The machine was also fitted with the optional dozer blade. Having spoken to owner Marcus Evans previously I was aware that he has a fine restoration of a 1988 Takeuchi TB36 which somewhat unusually also features a telescopic dipper arm. I was delighted to see that he had brought the machine along to the show too. This stunning old classic will be on show at the forthcoming Plantworx exhibition in Bruntingthorpe, Leicestershire in just over a week’s time, so don’t forget to check it out. Exeter based Kubota dealership MST had a number of new machines on its stand including this dynamic arch display featuring the two examples of Kubota’s 3 tonne class machines the conventional tail swing KX027-4 and the ultra-short compact radius U27-4. Local Exeter plant hire company Tool Care Hire also had one of its new Kubota models on stand which was a KX71-3 machine. Finnish compact equipment manufacturer Avant were present at the show through South West dealers Paddock Equipment Ltd who displayed a number of models from the range including this nifty little rear wheel steer 225 loader/tool carrier. Another example from its conventional articulated loader/tool carrier range was the 640 model which was displayed with a vibratory fence post driver. These machines make a cracking addition to any agricultural fleet and are increasingly gaining popularity in the construction sector too. It was an enjoyable visit but as is often the case the show suffered from bad weather over the course of the 3 days, but in this country there is not much we can do about that!
