Digger's Bauma Highlights (Part Nine) LiuGong Europe

As it is for most manufacturers, Bauma was an important show for LiuGong as they put their products in the spotlight once again for a keen European audience, presenting no less than 20 machines from its line up and that of sister company Dressta. Looking stunning on the stand was the all new 4180D motor grader which we first saw in 2017 and which has recently become a Red Dot Award winner. Penned by the UK industrial design team headed by Gary Major, the 4180D is the result of cooperation with customers and operators who were asked to re-think grader design. In response the team have come up with what they describe as a best-in-class 324o panoramic cab design which offers vastly improved visibility thanks to a unique 5 post layout with a single C-pillar. The machine tips the scales at 15,500kgs and is powered by a Stage V emissions compliant Cummins 6-cylinder engine which puts out 142kw (193hp) @2,200rpm, top speed is 42 km/h and blade width is 3,960mm. Talking about the new machine and its design features Gary Major said, “We've designed this to give you a visible arc through the whole machine from nose to tail, so many of these machines are designed in sections without thought for continuity of line, we've designed ours to be as cohesive as possible, I think we've absolutely nailed it for proportion and stance”. Already available in the UK market, the 8/9 tonne class 909ECR midi excavator was also designed with customers in mind, in fact a number of high-profile UK plant hire customers were consulted to share their thoughts on what was needed in a machine specifically aimed at the plant hire/rental sector. The result is the 909ECR compact radius machine which is gaining favour with some big names in the UK market. Power comes from a 4-cylinder Yanmar unit which offers a power output of 44kw (59hp) @2,200rpm. A maximum dig depth of 6,847mm can be achieved in standard configuration. Dressta now owned by LiuGong displayed a number of dozers including an all new design for its 42,250kg TD-25 model. A new cab design features 30% more glass than on the previous model and a new bogie undercarriage is said to offer the operator a much-improved ride. Power for this machine once again comes from a Cummins 6-cylinder unit offering 246kw (330hp). Semi-U blade capacity is 9.6m3. The regular demonstrations of the 924DM Demolition specification hydraulic excavator were a crowd drawer, check out my video below.
