Digger’s Conexpo Highlights: Liebherr Celebrates 50 Years in the USA

Liebherr presented around 30 different types of construction and earthmoving machines on its extensive stand on the Festival Grounds which covered some 53,000 ft² (4,900 m²).

Dominating the stand at the front was a stunning example of their new Generation 8 series excavators, in this instance an R 938 model. This machine which was built in Liebherr’s famous French excavator manufacturing facility in Colmar had been wrapped in a stars and stripes theme livery depicting famous American landmarks.

The event marked the US premier for the latest generation of Liebherr excavator which consists of seven models ranging from 48,500 to 99,200 lb (22 to 45 t): R 922, R 924, R 926, R 930, R 934, R 938 and R 945. Sat alongside the R 938 was another example from the range the R 926.

Liebherr presented four wheeled loaders from its range at Conexpo including the L 566 XPower model with its power split drive system. Liebherr installs this drive as standard on its large XPower wheel loaders. It combines short loading cycles with optimal hydrostatic drive with the mechanical drive, the benefits of which come into effect over long distances and up hills.

Another line making its debut in the USA was Liebherr Generation 8 dozers with the new PR 736. The PR 736 is powered by a newly developed Liebherr diesel engine belonging to the EVO series (160 kW / 217 hp). It meets emission level Tier 4f, its exhaust gases being cleaned by a combination between a diesel oxidation catalyst and a selective catalytic reduction and particle filter.

The big daddy that caught my eye on the Liebherr dozer line up on this occasion was the PR 756. Weighing in at 38,300 to 41,150kg depending on specification, the PR 756 is the third largest in Liebherr’s dozer range, with a blade capacity of 8.92 - 11.70 m³ and an engine power output of 250 kW (340hp).
