Digger’s weekly social media round up #29

There was a lot of banter at the start of the week as James Hulk Covell, who had been working for blog stalwart Lionel Whitnell, sent in a photo of the main man at the controls of James’s JCB JS130LC excavator. Not content with just sending the photo in James had also put a bit of artwork on it with the letters JCB pasted onto Lionel’s jacket, which managed to keep everyone amused one way or another. Check out the post and join in the banter by clicking on this link. Neil Roskell posed the question new Case which he has had on demo and has been pretty impressed with or to stick with his long term favoured brand Volvo. The post prompted a flurry of answers and suggestions from readers and you can have your say by visiting the post here. The old clean cab, dirty cab debate raised its head again this week thanks to a post from Stevie Motherwell. It’s a topic that always seems get people fired up rightly or wrongly, usually as the dirty mob see it all as an affront to their manliness and think that anyone who prefers to sit in a clean cab must have some kind of OCD issue. Personally I have always preferred to keep a decent level of cleanliness in any of my cabs, but it has to be practical so carpet and driving in socks is out for me I’m afraid. Take a look at the thread and have your say here. Talented Volvo excavator owner/operator and Steelwrist tilrotator demonstrator Ben Miller posted a series of photos featuring some of his jobs over the past week. Ben is lucky to work in some stunning locations in the Scottish Highlands, often working alone in remote areas which offer some of the best views in the country. Take a look at his fantastic work by checking out the thread here. Having previously test driven the new Bell B60E articulated hauler which we covered in Earthmovers Magazine, this week Alan Angilley is trying out the new Volvo A60H which was launched at Bauma last year. Alan has been kind enough to share some photos from the china clay pits in Cornwall where the machine which is the first of its kind in the UK, is currently being put to the test. If you missed it, check it out here.   Gregg Niko posted a photo featuring himself at the controls of a JCB excavator at the first Plantworx show 4 years ago. In the thread it was suggested that members of the Digger Man Blog community have a meet up on one of the days at this year’s Plantworx event. If enough people express an interest to do so, I propose meeting on the middle day on the Finning stand around 2pm. Let us know if that sounds like a good idea by posting on the thread here. Finally this week Barrie Wilkinson a Bobcat owner made a good point this week in this thread when he said “If a man owns and operates a digger you have to respect his views on it. You may not agree with his views but that’s life, it wouldn’t do if we all had the same views”. I have to say I totally agree with him, just lately we have witnessed a lack of respect for others on this blog’s Facebook page and it’s something I’m not a fan of, unfortunately that is the downside of social media and as groups/pages get bigger some people who can’t behave slip through the net. We generally have a great group here with some outstanding and truly professional members in it, let’s not spoil it eh. Until next week have a fantastic weekend and keep on digging!
