Digger’s weekly social media round up #31

Digger Man Blog Facebook group stalwart Lionel Whitnell raised an interesting point earlier this week on the prices of panel door latches on two competitive brands. This prompted a good discussion on the topic and revealed that most of these latches are made cheaply abroad and used by many of the major manufacturers with a lot of variation in prices depending on who you buy them from. If you missed it check out the thread here. Marc Napier posted a photo of what appears to be an older Moxy articulated dumptruck which has at some point had a makeover in Doosan colours to make it look a bit more modern and up to date. This post attracted a good deal of interaction from our readers and you can have your say by clicking on this link. Tyler Jefferies posted a shot of his latest mount which is from the Hitachi stable and posed the question, what do people think about Hitachi. This prompted a flurry of replies. Take a look and see what you think here. Our very own Graham Black posted about the news that forward tipping dumpers are apparently going to be banned from the A14 project, which will no doubt lead to a snowball affect with other contractors banning their use in the future too. A good debate ensued with some interesting comments and a bit of “trolling” added into the mix too! If you missed it check it out here. One of our International readers Tony LaFramboise who lives in Alaska asked a question about buckets saying, “Why is everyone in Country's other than US and Canada using wide shallow clean up buckets? Instead of clean up buckets that actually hold more dirt than your digging bucket?” This topic received a wide variety of answers but also raised an interesting point about how excavating techniques vary from country to country, check it out and see what you think. Caterpillar man Steve Bishop posted a series of photos which have been doing the rounds on the various plant and machinery forums for some years now. The shots show the damage that was caused when cargo ships load of shiny new Cats broke loose during a storm in the English Channel, the images of the carnage are shocking and well worth another look, which you can do by clicking on this link. And finally this week reader Travis Tobin appears to have picked himself up a little gem of a bargain when he was offered this Kubota KH-36 for the princely sum of £50. The little machine just needs a new starter motor and some much needed TLC and it will be back in good running order in no time. Take a look here. Thanks for all the contributions this week and we look forward to seeing you back on the Digger Man Blog Facebook page next week.
