Dozer delights at Bauma

Getting its world premiere on the massive Liebherr stand was the first model in their new Generation 6 crawler tractor range. The PR 736 has a service weight ranging from 20 to 25 tonnes depending on specification. These new crawler tractors have been designed to provide increased efficiency whilst reducing fuel consumption and gas emissions. These new machines feature electronic travel speed regulation with an integral eco-function, and pro-active power control system. 283 A completely brand new cab design has been introduced for the Generation 6 models, offering the operator excellent all round vision of the terrain and the machines working attachments. All controls are ergonomically located and the fully adjustable seat ensures operators of all sizes can be accommodated. Have to say it does look a nice place to spend a shift. Also on stand was the company’s current top of the range dozer the PR764 Litronic, which is described as the world’s largest hydrostatically driven crawler tractor. Powered by a 310kw (417hp) engine, the machine has an operating weight ranging from 44,220kg-52,685kg (97,488lbs-116,150lbs) depending on specification, and a maximum blade capacity of 17m3 (22.2 yd3). A very powerful looking tractor! 030 On the New Holland stand the company showed off its new D150C crawler tractor, the mid-range machine which is flanked by the smaller D125C and the larger D180C. All three models in the new C Series range feature New Holland’s well proven SCR technology, which brings a remarkable 10.5% fuel saving compared to the previous generation, based on hourly fuel consumption. 260 The D150C and D180C also feature a new “V-shaped” cooling package that increases the cooling surface for better efficiency and easier radiator cleaning. These new models are also said to offer best-in-class drawbar pull and versatility with their hydrostatic transmissions. 259 On the Komatsu stand was an example of their new D61 Exi dozer, which features the company’s revolutionary intelligent Machine Control system. To provide customers with more money-saving tools, the D61EX/PX-23 dozer was recently fitted with a factory standard Plug and Play provision, making it very easy to install Topcon 2D and 3D blade control systems. Komatsu’s new intelligent Machine Control system goes one step further and is factory integrated. It offers a from rough to finish grading performance through the use of a highly durable and accurate off-blade sensor package, validated to Komatsu's rigid quality and durability standards. All this modern technology is mind blowing, and it does make me wonder how much longer operators will be required in the seat as such! 122 Over on the LiuGong stand, sister company Dressta were showing examples from their dozer range including the big TD40E model. 171 And finally another Chinese based manufacturer, Zoomlion whose ZD320-3 does bear a striking similarity to earlier Komatsu models. 304 There were many more dozers on my travels, and some that I didn’t even get around to seeing, such is the size of the event. Next time I think I will need longer in Bavaria!
