Epic land journey for Merlo telehandler

Many readers of my previous blog may recall the event from 2010 when Jukka Mutanen tracked a mini excavator for 1000 kilometres from Hanko in the south of Finland to Kuusamo in the north east of Finland. Now with that event nothing more than a distant memory a new exciting challenge looms on the horizon. Leo Tergujeff has been the Merlo telehandler service manager for Finnish importers Rotator Oy since 1995, now to mark his retirement this coming summer Leo is going to drive a Merlo P25.6 all the way from the factory in Italy to Finland! The marathon drive will cover some 4000 kilometres, taking a route through Italy, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and then Finland itself. At a speed of 36 km/h it is anticipated that the journey will take Leo around 40-50 days. It could be said that Leo knows Merlo telehandlers inside out after his long career looking after them as a service manager, so if any unforeseen problems arise during the journey, Leo will be slipping on the overalls to sort them out without having to rely on local service crews. Leo has set up his own website and also a Facebook page entitled Merlo Manne where you will be able to follow his progress during the build-up and following the start which will be at 10am on April 28th. In addition Leo has promised to tweet about his adventures along the way. The Digger Man Blog wishes Leo all the very best as he embarks on this epic journey.
