International TD-40 in the Red

Dresser Industries Inc purchased the International Harvester Construction equipment division back in 1982. In 1985 the company launched its largest ever dozer the TD-40, built in its Libertyville, Illinois manufacturing plant, which tipped the scales at 67 tons. The machine was powered by a Cummins engine offering a power output rating of 460hp. The machine was upgraded to TD-40B status in 1989, by which time production had been transferred to Poland, where variants of the old International models are still produced to this day under the Dressta banner. This particular example was apparently purchased new in 1992 and has accumulated 30,000 hours on the metre. This machine has been re-built at some stage except for the final drives and steering clutches which are said to be original fitment. The owner painted the machine in International’s iconic red paintwork in recognition of the original designers, I think you will agree it’s a fine specimen.
Seen below is the modern day version, all be it a heavier and larger example, that is now built by Dressta in that same factory in Poland which has been producing dozers for generations and is now under the ownership of Chinese manufacturer LiuGong.
