Liebherr launches new R 928 G8 crawler excavator

The new R 928 G8 crawler excavator is a completely new model, developed and produced by Liebherr-France SAS in Colmar. The new model positioned between the R 926 G8 and the R 930 G8, and complements the current Generation 8 series, which already includes seven models with a gross vehicle weight of 22 to 45 tonnes. The Generation 8’s design is based on existing, high performance components. This new, weight-optimised combination should significantly reduce the transport problems of many customers.

The R 928 G8 has several features in common with the R 926 G8 and R 930 G8: The same superstructure and equipment as the R 926 G8 and the same LC or NLC undercarriage as the R 930 G8. The performance of the R 928 G8 lies between the R 926 G8 and the R 930 G8. The R 928 G8 crawler excavator rounds off the current range of Generation 8 crawler excavators. It is characterised by high drawbar pull, high load-bearing capacity and a large bucket. Liebherr says the R 928 G8 can hold its own with machines that are heavier than the R 926 G8 and lighter than the R 930 G8.

The Generation 8 machines develop higher tear and breakout forces compared to the previous generation. The torque of the superstructure has also been increased. This means, reckons Liebherr, that the new crawler excavators achieve higher levels of performance under site conditions. In addition, a new equipment concept enables the load curve to be optimised and the inertia in the rotary drive to be improved, reducing fuel consumption. The new, robust X-form undercarriages ensure greater stability. The automatic central lubrication ensures a longer service life of the parts and improves the productivity of the machines.

The air conditioned work cab is another feature of Generation 8. There’s a retractable front window, pneumatic seat with vertical and longitudinal damping, and a high resolution touchscreen, too. Meanwhile, the excellent all-round visibility, as well as the rear and side cameras boost safety.
