Liebherr reveal Generation 8 excavators

German based global construction machinery manufacturer Liebherr revealed its new Generation 8 excavators to an elite group of International trade press members in Canada last week.

I have not had any detail on these new machines but the main bullet points are as follows: Liebherr's new Generation 8 crawler excavators, will be officially launched in January 2019 and will start with six models: R 922, R 924, R 926, R 930, R 934 and R 938. The R 922 and R 924 are available for high-regulated countries while the other four models will be available for high- and lower-regulated countries with the related engines. The models will feature an engine power range from 163 to 299 hp and operating weights between 22 and 45 metric tonnes.

The new cab has been designed to improve operator comfort with an air-suspension seat featuring vertical and longitudinal damping. An easy-to-use 7-inch high-resolution colour touchscreen monitor incorporating rear and side view camera screens and a fully retractable front window have been fitted.

The R 922 and R 924 will be the first models introduced and will feature a Liebherr Stage V engine. The engine is fitted with a diesel oxidation catalyst, SCR system and particulate filter. Bucket capacity ranges from 0.55 cubic meters to 1.65 cubic meters. Both models are available with a large choice of types and sizes of undercarriage, attachments and tools.

Liebherr has increased the traction force of the undercarriage and swing torque of the upper-carriage between 5% to 25% compared to the previous generation.

For the Generation 8 crawler excavators maintenance elements including the fuel prefilter, fine fuel filter, engine air filter and housing for cab air filters are all accessible from the outside and the ground.
