Liebherr’s big excavators always impress

At the 2013 edition of the Bavarian machinery fest in Munich, Liebherr showcased its face shovel version of the R 9400 which tips the scales at 345-tonnes and competes in the 400-tonne class sector. Last year Liebherr delivered a backhoe version of this giant mining excavator, one of 65 units working globally, to the Colorado based Trapper Mining Inc, who were previously using a large wheeled loader on this operation, although traditionally they have a long history of running large rope-controlled draglines at this operation. The model deployed at Trapper Mining features the latest USA/EPA Tier 4 Final diesel engine which is rated at 1,250 kw (1,675 hp). The machine was also supplied with specially built 37-cubic-yard optimized bucket which enables the machine to load 240 tonne capacity trucks in 4 passes. Check out this video from Liebherr featuring the machine which has been given the nickname “The Duke” typically an American name relating to the famous Hollywood actor John Wayne.
