Miller Plant has invests £1.7m in Caterpillar equipment

Scottish contractor Miller Plant Ltd has invested £1.7m in seven new Caterpillar machines and additional technology from Finning UK & Ireland, including two of the first new-generation Cat 730 articulated dump trucks supplied in the UK.

The Inverurie-based, family-owned company’s latest investment includes a Cat 966 XE medium wheel loader, Cat 340 and 330 hydraulic excavators, CS13 and CS16 vibratory soil compactors and the two 730 articulated trucks. The machines will be used on civil engineering and infrastructure projects across the North-East of Scotland.

“All our new Cat machines will go on to support major civil and infrastructure projects across the North-East and we are looking forward to seeing the efficiency and productivity benefits the integrated technology brings,” said Ian Miller, Managing Director at Miller Plant.

“We are particularly looking forward to using the advanced idle management system on the Cat 966 XE wheel loader as it will help to reduce fuel consumption and costs for our customers - an essential feature in today’s economic climate.”

Now in its fourth generation, Miller Plant provides bulk earthworks, contract crushing, plant hire, haulage and aggregate supply. The company has worked with Finning for more than 30 years.

New Cat 730s

The new Cat 730s feature a range of electronic safety and machine management systems. Cat Object Detect with Stability Assist is designed to warn operators when the truck approaches its tipping threshold, while Dynamic Roll Protection can reduce fuel and apply the brakes when cornering at excessive speed.

“We have invested in Cat 730s as they come with the added benefit of smart technology that is designed to maximise productivity, operator comfort and safety while working in demanding applications,” said Miller.

The Cat 340 and 330 excavators are equipped with Cat 2D Grade Assist and E-Fence technology. Grade Assist is designed to reduce the number of passes required and improve consistency, while E-Fence allows operators to establish working boundaries. All seven machines are also equipped with VisionLink, giving Miller Plant access to information on machine location, condition and service history, alongside remote diagnostics. The system also provides data on idle time and fuel consumption.
