Miller UK partners with Lighthouse Charity

One of the UK’s largest earthmoving attachment manufacturers has named an organisation dedicated to providing emotional, physical and financial support to the construction community as its chosen charity for 2024.

Based in Northumberland, Miller – which specialises in manufacturing and supplying earthmoving equipment across the globe – has committed to deliver a year-long fundraising campaign with all proceeds to be donated to the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity. As the only charity of its type in the UK, the Lighthouse Charity provides extensive support to not only construction workers in need, but also to their families. This includes delivering an array of services such as a free and confidential 24/7 helpline, text support service, live online chat help and a Wellbeing Academy offering free wellbeing training for the industry.

The business has committed to being a company supporter for the charity - already donating an annual financial pledge - and has ambitious plans to launch a series of fundraising activities throughout the year. This includes staff participating in the National Three Peak Challenge, various raffles, as well as donating its earthmoving equipment for the charity’s annual dinner. Being a company supporter will allow Miller’s staff to have access to the charity’s wellbeing support services which include wellbeing champion support and training, critical incident support and a plethora of resources.

Maintaining Excellence standard
Having recently achieved the Continuing Excellence standard in the Better Health at Work Award – an accredited award that focuses on the wellbeing of employees at work – Miller is now pursuing the Maintaining Excellence standard. The company plans to integrate the Lighthouse Charity’s services, such as mental health and suicide awareness courses to align with its goal of achieving the new standard.

Barry Robison, Director of Marketing and Product Management at Miller (pictured top) said, “The Lighthouse Charity plays an absolutely crucial role in supporting individuals and their families in the construction industry, which is very much needed as the sector continues to face adversities.

"Miller is wholly dedicated to actively supporting our employees with their health and wellbeing. As such, partnering with the Lighthouse Charity, which will provide fantastic resources to our own staff and their families, was a natural decision for us,” Barry added. “Aligning with our culture and values, the work the charity does is crucial, and it is very important that Miller gives back to our community, whilst we encourage our staff to also do their bit in giving back. We are looking forward to engaging with employees to get involved with this year’s charity plans, as we look to raise as much money as possible for this fantastic cause.”

#MakeitVisible
In addition, Miller's support aligns with the Lighthouse Charity’s #MakeitVisible initiative, promoting well-being visibility on construction sites. Miller integrates safety and wellbeing into its everyday practices through its Work Safe with Miller campaign, focusing on a different safety topic each quarter.

Sarah Bolton, Chief Operating Officer at the Lighthouse Charity commented, "We are delighted to have Miller on board, not just as a company supporter but also being chosen as their 2024 charity. This partnership will be mutually beneficial for both parties as this collaboration not only raises essential funds for our services but also increases awareness of the support we provide to individuals and their families during challenging times. We anticipate a successful collaboration with Miller as we have a common objective to improve wellbeing in our industry and ensuring that people know how to reach out for support. We can’t wait to hear about all of their exciting activities!"

Supplying advanced attachments to major OEMs worldwide, Miller joins a growing list of companies supporting the Lighthouse Charity including its customers Gap Group, Tru7Group, and Hitachi Construction Machinery (UK) to name a few.
