New 250-tonne-class Liebherr Excavator
Liebherr has made its 250-tonne-class R 9300 G8-E electric excavator commercially available, following completion of its validation programme.
Based on the diesel-powered R 9300 G8, the electric model is designed to deliver the same productivity, hydraulic power and bucket capacity when handling material with a density of 1.8t/m³. It is available in both backhoe and face shovel configurations. The R 9300 G8-E is powered by an 850kW electric drivetrain, offered in 6kV and 6.6kV configurations to meet IEC standards. The machine combines Liebherr’s experience developing electric excavators with the established Generation 8 platform.
Benefits of electric drive
With no direct exhaust emissions at the point of use, the R 9300 G8-E can help reduce a mine’s operational greenhouse gas emissions, depending on the source of its electricity. The electric drivetrain also has fewer components than an internal combustion engine, potentially reducing maintenance requirements and operating costs. Lower vibration levels compared with the diesel model are intended to improve operator comfort.
Technology and assistance systems
The excavator is equipped with Liebherr Power Efficiency – Hydraulic Control as standard. The system adapts hydraulic power to the machine’s load profile, helping reduce overall power demand. Its Generation 8 electronic architecture also allows integration with Liebherr’s IoMine technology portfolio. Available systems include excavator Assistance Systems, the semi-autonomous Bucket Filling Assistant, the Skyview vision system and the Data View visualisation tool. Customers can also specify Liebherr’s autonomous cable reel system to assist with cable management and support machine mobility around the site.
