New Volvo for F D Builders

F D Builders, a family-run business specialising in building development work throughout Devon and Cornwall, has taken delivery of a new, 2.5-tonne Volvo ECR25D, supplied by Plant & Engineering Services located in Beare, near Exeter.

“We already run a small loader, micro excavator and a twin drum roller, but hire in larger machines for groundworking and other activities when we need to. We felt that by adding a 2.5-tonne machine, it would give us greater flexibility for the general day to day jobs we undertake,” commented proprietor Sean Hopper. A large proportion of F D's work is now focused upon contracting to Travis Perkins, taking care of all the maintenance aspects of their facilities in the Southwest of England, ranging from yard repairs and re-surfacing to roof repairs and anything in between.

The ECR25D has an operating weight of 2.5 tonnes and is powered by a 1.1-litre low engine and developing 21hp. The machine is available with a choice of a long or short dipper arm, giving a reach of either 4.48m or 4.77m, while also providing a dig depth of 2.67m to a generous 2.96m. All hydraulic functions are also performed in total independence for more control and less delay when handling multiple tasks. As an added bonus, the machine also provides the ability to operate a wide range of hydraulic attachments by using proportional control. Besides the normal assortment of buckets supplied with the machine, Sean Hopper has increased the scope of his ECR25D by adding a ripper tooth, hydraulic auger and a breaker to cover all aspects of the work it will be expected to undertake.
