O&K’s RH200 an impressive machine by anyone’s standards

Since joining the Earthmovers Magazine team in 2010 David Wylie has enjoyed privileged access to some of the biggest mines and quarry’s in Scotland and the North of England and David has covered many of these site visits in his new book which is a mammoth 440 pages long and features 400 stunning images. In my role with Earthmovers I rarely get to see such giant machines as the RH200 which is working at the Shotton surface mine at Cramlington, Northumberland, and it was this story in chapter 11 of David’s new book that really caught my eye. The 520 tonne RH200 face shovel that Banks Mining currently run is the biggest of its kind working in Europe and takes its power from two V12 Cummins K 1500-E twin turbo engines which produce a staggering 2,529hp. The machine is fitted with a 26m3 clamshell bucket which is capable of loading the Cat 789 trucks in four passes, while the smaller 785’s only require three passes to be fully loaded. This awesome video produced by our friends over at the German channel Bauforum24 shows some great footage of the machine in action and interviews with site personnel at Shotton.
