On track for another speed record
Prior to being transported to Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, JCB’s Hyrdromax streamliner has undergone test runs at RAF Wittering in Cambridgeshire. Once out of the Salt Flats, the aim is to set a world land speed record for a zero-emission vehicle. The expectation is that it will beat the current 350mph record for a diesel-powered vehicle, which was set by JCB some 20 years ago.
The four-wheel drive Hyrdromax is powered by a pair of JCB’s recently introduced four-cylinder hydrogen fuelled engines. These have been modified to deliver a combined power output of a whopping 1600hp, full details in the next issue.
