Optimum traction from Avant

We are all familiar with the wheeled Avant compact loaders and their abilities to carry a wide variety of work tools and attachments. But at the EHS the company’s UK arm were displaying a low ground pressure tracked variant of their 760 Optidrive model. The new Optidrive system is a standard feature initially on the Avant 700 series and will be rolled out later with the 500 and 600 series loaders. According to Avant, Optidrive offers a 10% increase in performance, by reducing power loss in the system by up to 1.5kw which is roughly 10% of the total power used in the drive circuit. The company has also reduced hydraulic connections by 60% with a reduction in angled connections that can prevent hydraulic flow. Avant say that there is also less heat build-up with the Optidrive system and the amount of flushing oil in the drive motors is 5 times bigger compared to the old system, providing a far better cooling of the drive circuit. The system also creates less engine vibration and noise. I came across this video of a 750 model being tested in the UK, in an application that could have all so easily gone wrong!
