Pindad excavator anyone?

PT Pindad (Persero) is a state-owned company which has been commissioned to produce 20 tonne class hydraulic excavators which will be used primarily on government infrastructure projects in Indonesia. Pindad is primarily a manufacturer of state-of-the-art military hardware and commercial products, which is does from its factories in Bandung and Malang. The Pindad Excava 200 hydraulic excavator was launched last year with an immediate order for 500 units coming from the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PURR). The machines started to be delivered to various projects in February this year. pindad-1 As I understand it these machines are solely built in Indonesia using well proven imported components. The company has a production target of 7000 units but has no current plans to export. They are targeting the home market which is dominated by products from Japan, South Korea, USA and more recently a flood of products from China. Following the guidelines of the government led initiative these machines are being produced at a very competitive price compared to the more mainstream blue chip brands. 1406547img-20150627-130914780x390 Check out this promotional video from Pindad featuring the Excava 200.
The machine is hardly going to win any beauty contests with its rather dated angular looks but you can appreciate the governments thinking in commissioning the building of them in house so as to speak while helping to keep costs down.
