Plant spotting with Potter Plant Hire

In this post I am going to present a brief selection of photos as a taster to my future article in Earthmovers Magazine. On the day of my visit I was given a guided tour of the job by Giles Potter, Managing Director of Potter Plant Hire. The 12 mile section of the A1 from Leeming to Barton was a sprawling mass of machines from the large Potter Plant Fleet, who were all busy working on the Carillion Morgan Sindall Joint Venture project which is expected to cost £380 million. Hitachi machines are very popular in the Potter Plant Hire fleet and in particular there were a lot of 8 tonne class Zaxis 85USB LC models working along the entire stretch of the job. A vast number of machines on the fleet feature GPS systems like this Caterpillar D6T dozer which was busy doing what it does best. Recent arrivals to the fleet include the Hydrema 922D articulated dumptruck’s which are also joined by examples from Volvo and Bell. Being a road job rubber ducks are to be seen all over the place and I was delighted to see and meet the operator of this Takeuchi TB295W who is apparently a member of the Digger Man Blog Facebook page too. And last but not least another Digger Man Blog member was operating this Case CX210C performing excavation works at the toe of a batter. It was a long but enjoyable day and I look forward to going into more detail about the company and this job in my proposed article soon.
