Poclain excavator archive footage

This old Poclain promotional video at the end of this post features the EC1000, which when it was officially launched at the Intermat show in Paris in 1970 was the largest excavator ever built at that time. In the photo below we see an example of the Poclain EC1000 at work in the UK for Miller Mining. This machine had an operating weight of 160 tons and could operate as a 10-cubic yard face shovel or a 6.5 cubic yard backhoe. It was powered amazingly by three GM 8V71 diesel engines which developed 870 HP. Unfortunately the video commentry is in French but it is still great to watch with some good shots of a Caterpillar D9G performing ripping duties aswell. The Poclain EC1000 was an amazing excavator in its day, despite some reliability problems it was way ahead of its time in the 1970's.
