Searles Scrapers Ride Again

Back in the days before the excavator and ADT combination became the preferred way to shift muck in the UK, if the ground conditions were suitable, the scraper was king, able to load, carry and spread all single handed with the exception of a shove from behind when loading from a trusty D9 tractor or in a push pull scenario. scraper1 However long established West Sussex based earthworks and plant hire firm Les Searle Plant Hire still run a number of scrapers and when the ground conditions and application is right the big Cat girls come out to play! scraper2 Two of three Caterpillar 637C machines in the Searle fleet were recently deployed to Langhurst Wood Quarry in Horsham, where they are often put to work to pull out clay reserves and transport it up to the adjacent brickworks. scraper3 One of the lucky fellas who still gets to spend time on these iconic earthmoving giants is Adam Collins who is also a very active member of the Digger Man Blog Facebook page. He is seen in action below in push pull set up with work mate and fellow operator Gary Bonella. scraper4 The Digger Man Blog would like to thank Les Searle Plant Hire for the use of these photos. Check out this video which features a large fleet of 637's at work in the USA.
