UK PLANT INDUSTRY HIGHLIGHTS
Plantworx show organiser, the Construction Equipment Association, has launched a major report on the UK muck-shifting machinery industry. The highlights are that the UK is the largest producer of construction equipment in Europe and the fifth largest in the world. In 2018 we produced over 60,000 units, earning manufacturers approximately £13bn. Around 60% of UK-built machines are exported outside the EU, helped by Northern Ireland’s dominant global position in the mobile crushing and screen sector. It is further estimated that UK-built machines account for a quarter all the kit sold across the EU.
The continuing confidence of this part of the UK manufacturing industry is driven by massive infrastructure projects, including HS2, Hinkley Point C and Highways England’s current £15bn five-year roads programme. In addition, the Government has committed to further expansion of house building to 300,000 new homes a year.
