Volvo’s EC950F Makes a Big Impact for Collins Earthworks
Collins Earthworks based in Derbyshire took delivery of the largest excavator in the Volvo Construction Equipment line up back in July, with the machine being supplied by UK dealership SMT GB.
The machine which now features a Stage V EU emissions compliant diesel engine, was put straight to work on a massive 1 million cubic metre muckshift job near Swadlincote, where Collins is performing the earthworks for the Project Mercia employment park, which covers an area of some 238 acres.

Of course, Collin’s are no strangers to running large Volvo excavators, they were also the first customers in the UK to purchase the EC750E model and they are now running 3 of those, all of which are currently on this same site. But now the EC950F has become the prime mover on the fleet, capable of loading the A60H articulated haulers in just 4 passes thanks to its 6.75 cubic metre bucket.
In this video from SMT GB hear what Collins Earthworks Contracts Manager Wayne Naylor has to say about the project and the impact the new machine has had on the job.
