“When the boat comes in”

Those of us of a certain age will relate the title of this post to a 1970’s TV series that focused on the struggles of a First World War veteran and a community living in the North East of England in the hard post war period. But in actual fact, in this instance, it relates to the use of a rather big dozer on a beach in Denmark.

Its not unusual to see small tracked type tractors on beaches around the world, but they are more often than not small vintage models that have been retired from the earthmoving sector to live out their days on the sand pulling in boats. What is unusual is to see a Cat D10N model performing such a task, but that is exactly what this machine does on the Thorup Beach in Denmark. With the boats fully loaded with the catch of the day, this machine tugs them onto the beach so they can land the catch. You would have to say its not everyday you see 520hp (387.8kw) tracked type tractor doing this kind of work on a beach!
