YEAR IN REVIEW: August 2020

It may have been pure coincidence or something more significant, but during the last month of summer there were a bundle of announcements relating to electric machinery. Here at Earthmovers, we certainly had our work cut out trying to keep up! That said, there were plenty other things to talk about, from a 100-tonne Volvo digger to new dealer appointments, vintage machine restorations and more, as you can see below...

 

1) FIRST VOLVO EC950F IN THE UK

In mid August, Collins Earthworks, based in Derbyshire, received the UK's first EC950F. Supplied by SMT GB and weighing 104 tonnes, this massive excavator was put to work near the M42 motorway. Read more.

 

2) JCB RESTORES VINTAGE BACKHOE LOADER FOR CUSTOMER

Lincolnshire-based company Eric Carnaby & Son has owned a JCB 1 backhoe since 1964 - and the manufacturer recently restored it as a thank you for the firm's loyality to the brand. Read more.

 

3) ELECTRIC SKID-STEER LOADER ARRIVES IN UK

In August, a brand new machine from Kovaco Electric landed on our shores and impresseed with its smart looks, remote control system and two battery options. Read more.

 

4) NEW AMMANN DEALER FOR WALES

Switzerland manufacturer Ammann selected Phoenix Hire & Sales Ltd to offer its full range of light equipment and heavy compaction products in the Wales region. Read more.

 

5) CATERPILLAR TRADEMARK ANNIVERSARY

On August 2nd 1910, Benjamin Holt, founder of one of Caterpillar’s parent companies registered a trademark for track-type tractors and combine harvesters with the US Patent Office. Read more.

 

6) WACKER NEUSON EXPANDS ELECTRIC RANGE

The award-winning EZ17e mini-excavator is ideally suited to jobs in urban environments, reckons its maker, thanks to its quiet running and zero emissions power system. Read more.

 

7) VAN OORD BUYS ELECTRIC CAT 323F EXCAVATOR

Towards the end of August, Dutch company Van Oord treated itself to a Caterpillar 323F Z-line, converted by dealer Pon with the aim of reducing its fleet emissions. Read more.

 

8) LIFTING AND ACCESS SPECIALIST OPENS NEW DEPOT

Hird opened a new Western Operational Hub on the Hayes Trading Estate in the West Midlands, offering a range of mini cranes, glass lifting equipment, access platforms and training courses. Read more.

 

9) DOOSAN EXCAVATOR CONVERSION

Wirkstoff Technik in southern Germany created a highly capable forestry spec excavator out of an already impressive Doosan DX235LCR-5 for the Bühler forestry operation. Read more.

 

10) GKD RCI KIT FOR CAULFIELD'S NEW VOLVOS

Essex-based Caulfield Contractors chose GKD Rated Capacity Indicators for its 22 new Volvo excavators headed for Smart Motorway projects around the country. Read more.
