You'd be forgiven for thinking May was a quiet month for the construction industry. In some ways that was true, but there was still much to talk about on the Earthmovers News front, what with Yanmar launching a new wheeled excavator, Kobelco making a splash in the 12- to 14-tonne excavator class, and JCB dipping its toe into direct machinery sales via a new website. And that was just for starters...

1) YANMAR LAUNCHES B75W-5

Weighing in at 7.4 to 7.6 tonnes, Yanmar's new wheeled excavator is powered by a Stage 5 turbodiesel engine and boasts 3.5m digging depth, plus a flexible hydraulic arrangement. Read more.

 

2) TWO BILLION TONNED HAULED BY CAT MINESTAR COMMAND

In May, Caterpillar hit a significant milestone in autonomous haulage, achieving 2 billion tonnes (2.2 billion short tons) hauled using Cat MineStar Command system. Read more.

 

3) HS2 LEADS THE WAY

The UK's pioneering railway becomes the first infrastructure project to adopt a new, advanced emissions identification scheme, CESAR's ECV, for vehicles and plant. Read more.

5) INMALO AND STEELWRIST SIGN STRATEGIC CO-OPERATION AGREEMENT

6) NEW KOBELCO SK130LC-11 EXCAVATOR
