YEAR IN REVIEW: September 2020

New machine launches were only part of September's story, as developments going on behind the scenes at various companies finally revealed themselves: Mecalac and Doosan appointed new UK dealers, Oilquick signalled its intention to capitalise on the nation's quick-coupler and tilt-rotator market, and rumours that Hyundai was looking to buy into Doosan Infracore swirled around the industry. Elsewhere, the CPA's Stars of the Future winners were announced for some much-deserved recognition. 

 

1) WORLD'S LARGEST BACKHOE DREDGER

Van Oord sets its massive Goliath backhoe dredger to work in Scotland after netting a multi-million pound contract with the Aberdeen Harbour Board. Read more.

 

2) JCB UPDATES 3CX BACKHOE LOADER

A Stage 5 emissions-compliant, 3.0-litre engine is just for starters with JCB's refreshed machine, which builds on the strengths of the outgoing, 4.4-litre Stage 4 model. Read more.

 

3) OILQUICK LAUNCHES UK SUBSIDIARY

After establishing itself in North America and France, the quick-coupler manufacturer identified Britain as the next market with great growth potential. Read more.

 

4) NEW CAT DOZER

Fresh off the production line, Caterpillar's new, high-powered D9 dozer replaced the D9T model and is compatible with a range of attachments. Read more.

 

5) HYUNDAI TO BUY STAKE IN DOOSAN INFRACORE?

At the end of September, a rumour emerged in the Far East suggesting Hyundai Heavy Industries Group was interested in acquiring a controlling stake in Doosan Infracore. Read more.

 

6) 90 YEARS OF KOBELCO

In September, Kobelco Construction Machinery marked the 90th anniversary of its first electric mining shovel, which the manufacturer launched in Japan in 1910. Read more.

 

7) NEW DOOSAN DEALER

Pioneer Plant Ltd gets the nod from Doosan to become an authorised dealer for Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire among other areas. Read more.

 

8) KUBOTA MINI-EXCAVATORS ARE HOT PROPERTY

For the recent smart motorway building projects, L Lynch Plant Hire estimated that 90% of the machines hired for the jobs were from Kubota’s 5-tonne range. Read more.

 

9) NCD EQUIPMENT JOINS MECALAC

Battlesbridge-based NCD Equipment earned itself a place on Mecalac Construction Equipment UK's national dealership network. Read more.

The Construction Plant-hire Association’s Stars of the Future awards scheme identifies some of the industry’s brightest up-and-coming talent. Read more.
