A day in the woods at the APF Forestry Show (Part Two)

Rounding up my visit to the APF Forestry show in Warwickshire last week, with a look at some more of the plant and machinery highlights around the showground.

A day in the woods at the APF Forestry Show (Part Two)
Exc@v8 Managing Director Tom Lomax had a trio of Menzi Muck machines lined up on their busy stand including the M545 which was fitted with a mean looking Green Tec Forest Cutter tree saw attachment. DSC_3180 Also on the stand was the Italian built Eurocomach ES 60 TR 6 tonne class mini excavator, equipped with an Engcon tilt-rotator, which also made an appearance at this year’s Hillhead show. Readers may recall that the machine features a TAB boom set up and an angle tilt dozer blade. We are hoping to get hands on with this machine in the not too distant future for a first drive feature in Earthmovers. DSC_3179 Tom does have a knack for finding and sourcing some of the finest equipment and attachments going and it looks like he has done it again with Norwegian bucket manufacturer Gjerstad joining his company’s portfolio of products. These rugged looking Scandinavian style buckets look well-made and have strength built in! DSC_3183 The John Deere 859 MH tree harvester was without doubt the star attraction on the John Deere stand. It’s not very often you get to see one of these genuine dedicated machines in the metal and this beast was attracting a lot of attention in the forest area of the showground. DSC_3167 Also spotted in the forest was this Kubota KX061-3 fitted with a Ber-Con Logsplitter attachment. Further evidence, as if it were needed, that the modern day mini excavator is as much a tool carrier these days as just a digging machine. DSC_3159 The Finn’s know a thing or two about forestry work too and Finnish manufacturer Avant displayed some of their compact kit with timber handling front end attachments like this 755 compact loader, which was getting to grips with some small trees. DSC_3172 We finish off this post with a return to the Exc@v8 stand where we witnessed a fine piece of artwork which had been done on the side of one of the Gjerstad excavator buckets. A cracking job of work and it would almost be a criminal offence to put the bucket to work after all that effort! DSC_3184 All in all it was a great day out and I would like to thank the exhibition secretary Ian Millward for inviting us along on the day.
