Bell backhoe comes to the rescue of a black rhino

An incredible animal rescue video has surfaced online today featuring the rescue of a black rhino by a digger, which I feel is well worthy of a slot here on the Digger Man Blog.

The endangered black rhino had become stuck in a dried up watering hole in the South Africa KwaZulu-Natal region, after wading in to try and find some water to drink during a prolonged period of drought which has affected the game reserve and devastated crops and other livestock. A staff member patrolling grounds at Phinda Private Game Reserve found the distressed animal and instantly gathered a team to start a rescue operation. The decision was made to use a digger as it was considered to be the safest option, so a South African Bell backhoe loader was deployed to assist in the extraction of the rhino from the sticky quagmire.
