Cats get on the level at cattle market (Part Two)

Continuing my look at the Digger Man Blog’s Holsworthy cattle market site visit last week, where Coles Plant are currently undertaking the earthworks in preparation for the new build.

Cats get on the level at cattle market (Part Two)
Towards the far end of the site, a number of Coles Plant excavators were busy reducing the level and loading the excavated material onto their Volvo A25D articulated haulers. This material was then being taken to the fill area, where the dozers we featured in the earlier post, would level it off in 300mm layers, prior to soil stabilisation and compacting. Here we see Steve Coles in his new Caterpillar 320E L, sporting the company’s 50 years in business signage, as featured on an earlier blog post, and in Earthmovers Magazine issue 111. On the higher side of the cut, a Coles Plant Caterpillar 325D L excavator was kept busy with a couple of Volvo A25D trucks under him. The material was clay based and very claggy with it. It was also described by one of the ADT operator’s as “a bit on the heavy side”. Even the dozer operator’s said it was difficult material to deal with as it was coming out of the dig in big lumps, making it hard to level out efficiently. Even with the material being difficult to deal with, once delivered to the tipping area the dozer made light work of levelling it out. Just a couple of passes from the D6T and a full load is wiped out in no time. In another corner of the site, a Coles Plant Caterpillar 320D L was busy digging out and loading a John Deere 6830 tractor with dump trailer. I would like to thank all the lads at Coles Plant for their co-operation on the day of my site visit, and I look forward to catching up with you all again in another field one day!
