Excavator feast at the Royal Cornwall Show 2016 (Part Two)

Concluding my annual round up of the plant and machinery highlights from around the Royal Cornwall Showground.

Excavator feast at the Royal Cornwall Show 2016 (Part Two)
Kit from Takeuchi and Thwaites dominated the packed CBL Plant Sales stand at this year’s event. Regional Director John Elliott reported an incredibly busy period for CBL across the board in the first half of this year so far and this was reflected with the large amount of machines on the stand with customer’s names on ready for delivery straight from the show. MJL had two Takeuchi machines on the stand including a TB290 and a new 4 tonne class TB240. DSC_1132 Two examples of Thwaites ever popular 9 tonne forward tipping site dumpers were on display, one for Champion Groundworks with the other one sprayed up in the corporate blue & white colour scheme of Steve Hoskins Construction. DSC_1179 DSC_1178 Talking of dumpers, over at the Kellands Plant Sales stand Steve Roby and the crew were on hand to greet visitors and also encourage people to donate some money for Cancer Charities with this specially painted pink Terex TA3 3 tonne site dumper. Look out for more detail on this in a future issue of Earthmovers Magazine. DSC_1153 The largest machine exhibited at the whole show was a new Doosan DX420LC which has been ordered by Champion Groundworks/Groundfix. The impressive machine is almost certainly going to be put to work on the massive Sherford Village project on the outskirts of Plymouth. DSC_1160 The 14 tonner is the staple machine for most of the major housing site groundworks companies and also present on the Kelland’s stand was another example in the form of a Doosan DX140LC which has been purchased by the MJL Group. DSC_1162 Holt JCB gave most South West visitors their first public sighting of the new JCB Hydradig with an example which had been brought down from the demonstration fleet at the factory complete with Steelwrist tilt-rotator. Interest in the new machine concept on the stand was high according to Holt JCB’s Paul Butcher. DSC_1166 Charity causes were also represented on the Holt JCB stand with a stunning green JCB 3CX emblazoned with white butterflies to raise money for the Children’s Hospice South West. Visitors were invited to put money into a specially converted front bucket. DSC_1167 Finally a newcomer at the Royal Cornwall Show was Marubeni-Komatsu who displayed two machines on part of the Hydrascand hydraulic hose stand. Machines shown were a PC80MR 8 tonne class compact radius midi excavator and the popular PC138US-10 short tailswing 14 tonne class hydraulic excavator. DSC_1171 Despite the weathers attempt to spoil the party on the last two days, all in all it was another great show and a real highlight in the local calendar in Cornwall.
