Going Behind the Scenes at JCB’s 80th Anniversary Parade

As anyone involved in the construction machinery industry knows, JCB was founded in a lock-up garage in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, by Joseph Cyril Bamford CBE on October 23rd, 1945 – the same day as his son Anthony was born.

A historic anniversary celebration parade was recently held at JCB’s stunning World Headquarters in Rocester, Staffordshire, marking 80 years since JCB was founded and the 80th birthday of the chairman Lord Bamford.

Fortunately for us, JCB’s backhoe ambassador Georgina Williams was featured in the parade, and produced one of her fantastic videos, capturing some behind the scenes material of the machines that were going to feature, including many historic models, the rehearsals and footage from the day itself as members of the Bamford family attended, along with over 3,000 employees from the various factories locally.

It was a fitting tribute to this iconic British business and its forward-thinking chairman as they celebrated this historic milestone. JCB has always had a special place in my heart, as I grew up around the famous yellow diggers going to work with my late father who was a lifelong JCB backhoe loader operator, with yellow blood coursing through his veins, he just loved them, and was proud of the British company behind them.

I also thought it was fantastic to see all the demo drivers sporting another iconic item, the famous red JCB overalls. I once had a set of them, handed down to me by my father, unfortunately during my work in Wimpey's plant workshop in the early 80's the were destroyed by some battery acid, that spilt onto the legs, but I never forgot them, great overalls!

The Digger Man Blog would like to take this opportunity to wish JCB and Lord Bamford a very happy birthday.

We would also like to thank Georgina for capturing the event for us to share with our followers.
