It’s a Volvo but Not as we Know it!
I have always had a soft spot for machines that are painted in contractor’s corporate colours which are especially popular in countries such as France, Germany, and in this instance Holland.
Sometimes the identity of machines in non-original paintwork can challenge even the most dedicated machinery enthusiast, and that was certainly the case when I first saw the photos of this machine on Facebook!
It transpires that the machine is one of the new Volvo EC37F mini excavator models purchased by Dutch contractor Hoornstra Infrabouw who are based in the Eastern Netherlands city of Doesburg.
Hoornstra Infrabouw, who are engaged in a wide range of civil engineering, groundworks and pipeline installations, have virtually all their machines painted in this yellow and white livery. Their fleet includes machines from the Volvo stable supplied by their local dealer Obbink Volvo BV, and also some Liebherr, Mecalac, and Caterpillar models.
The new EC37F machine competes in the 3.5-4.4 tonne class and is powered by a Stage V emissions compliant 3-cylinder Volvo D1.7A diesel engine which produces a power output rating of 18.5kw (25.1hp).
In addition to the spacious and automotive style comfortable cabin, this model also benefits from a new and longer chassis frame which according to Volvo offers superior stability compared to previous models in this weight class.
It certainly looks to be a nice piece of kit, even in this unusual plumage!
We saw this one in its traditional Volvo colours during the Volvo Days event in Eskilstuna, Sweden earlier this year, rather foolishly, I didn't take the opportunity to take a test drive, so we will put that on the to do list for the future!
Let’s take a look at the EC37 and its sister machine the compact radius ECR40 in this promotional video from Volvo Construction Equipment.
A big thank you to Obbink Volvo BV for the images of the yellow machine in this post.
