Leverton Lookback

Well it’s that time of the week again on social media channels as #FlashbackFriday is upon us again, so this week I thought I would take another look back at the gone but never forgotten Cat dealer H. Leverton Ltd.

Leverton Lookback
Before the late 1990’s if you wanted to buy Caterpillar equipment in England you had a choice of two dealers in the form of Bowmaker or H. Leverton Ltd. Perhaps incredibly H. Leverton’s roots can be traced back as far as 1901 when Herbert Leverton set up in business selling bicycles of all things in his spiritual home of Spalding, Lincolnshire. But it wasn’t until 1935 that the company entered an official sales and servicing agreement with Caterpillar. 13524461_971222829643638_8686541886646407043_n Photo above: Courtesy of Stephen Ayre H. Leverton Ltd covered a vast swathe of the east side of the UK as a Cat dealer, stretching from Ashford in Kent, right up to Birtley in the North East. I was sent the following video footage some time ago by Jez Wensor who runs a great Facebook group dedicated to the former Cat dealership which I highly recommend you check out. The video gives a brief look into the activities of this once great company which was eventually sold to the current Cat dealers Finning UK & Ireland in 1997. There is some classic Cat equipment on show in this video so sit back and enjoy the footage!
