M & M Plant Hails Dig Day Event a Huge Success

M & M Plant – Devon & Cornwall held its latest Dig Days event at their premises at Trethorne Business Park across two sun laden days last Friday and Saturday.

M & M Plant Hails Dig Day Event a Huge Success

The pleasant West Country sunshine was most welcome as 100’s of customers, operators and general plant and machinery enthusiasts descended on the nicely laid out demo area which is adjacent to M & M Plant’s state of the art facility in Cornwall, for two days of action-packed digging and test-driving opportunities.

There were a wide range of machines available to try out from M & M’s extensive portfolio of products from the likes of CASE construction equipment, Wacker Neuson, Magni telescopic handlers, Multi One compact loader’s and CFMoto quad bikes.

For those with an eye on the technology, One Point Survey integrated their event to the dig day on the Friday which proved to be very popular as the uptake of GPS systems continues to grow at a rapid pace.

For people making decisions on which machines to invest in, its so important to spend some time in the seat running these machines, and for the operators who will be spending long hours in them in the future.

Tiltrotator’s were also presented with the team from Engcon UK in attendance on the Friday, with a tiltrotator unit mounted on M & M’s CX130E demonstrator unit, there was a steady stream of visitors who were keen to try out the machine and to see what all the fuss is about with these game changing attachments.

A Steelwrist unit was also present mounted on a Wacker Neuson EW100 “Rubber Duck”, which was also proving to be a popular attraction with queues forming for some seat time.

Another Wacker Neuson that was proving to be popular was the 9-tonne class ET90 which is brand new and sold to Ionic Groundworks SW. The machine was sporting some stunning green decals from Brandfix which is apparently being put on to all their machines going forward.

I spent some time in the brand-new CASE CX250E purchased by Liskeard based Steve Hoskin Construction and which will be operated by long serving operator Luke Billing-Wills better known as “Pork Chop”.

I’ve always liked a CASE (Sumitomo) machine and this one didn’t disappoint, with all the attributes we have come to expect from these Japanese built hydraulic excavators, powerful performance, silky smooth hydraulics and good operator comfort.

It was also a treat for me to meet young trainee operator Chloe Wallbutton (17) and her family, who it transpired, had actually never seen her operating before! Chloe is super passionate about the industry and is currently attending a construction machinery operating course at the well-known Duchy College in Stoke Climsland, we wish her well on her path into machine operating in the future.

The Magni HTH16.10 telescopic handler was displaying its lifting power and capabilities by hoisting a Wacker Neuson EZ50 mini excavator which is nudging the 6-tonne mark into the air. The Magni is certainly an impressive piece of kit. Incredibly the machine is the third smallest in the nine model HTH heavy duty range from the Italian manufacturer.

Such was the success of this event that they are already planning the next one, however, you can catch up with the team again at the forthcoming Royal Cornwall Show next month on 5th, 6th and 7th June.

It was great to catch up with local industry colleagues and good friends and I would like to personally thank the team at M & M for putting on a great event and for the kind hospitality during the two mornings I attended.
