Manic construction on Wall Street

Looking back at an old blog I wrote in the past featuring a classic batch of old photos which were sent to me by American reader and contributor Michael Palma.

Having read a previous post about health and safety concerns, Michael decided to send in these shots to clearly show the chaos that ensued on building sites back in the late 1920’s and early 1930’s. Michael said “These photos which were taken at a Wall Street construction site in 1929 show just how manic the operations were back in those days” It just seems incredible to those of us who are working on modern day construction sites that people were actually allowed to work in these conditions, piles of rubbish, timber, and heavy machinery in close proximity to site operatives it looks like an accident just waiting to happen. Check out all the site personnel working in close proximity with steam shovels, cranes and tipper trucks and not a Hi-Viz or hard hat to be seen anywhere! Amazing old photos Michael, thanks for sharing them with the Digger Man Blog.
