Last week saw the inaugural Svenska Maskinmässan plant and machinery exhibition take place at the Solvalla arena in Stockholm. 11,740 visitors attended over the 3 days and in this blog post we hope to bring a taste of the action.

New Swedish plant show kicks off in style
Sadly on this occasion the Digger Man Blog could not make the pilgrimage to Sweden as we have done in the past to visit MaskinExpo, it’s been a massive year for shows so far and with Hillhead looming on the horizon something had to give. However our Swedish friend Robert Carlsson did attend and has sent in some photos from the 3 day event that saw all the major machinery players gathering under wall to wall glorious Swedish sunshine. 13410387_1052806801451250_711782493_o One of the machines which caught Robert’s eye was a 6 tonne short radius mini excavator from Italian manufacturer Eurocomach. The machine featured a two piece TAB boom and a angle-tilt dozer blade which also has a real bolt on cutting edge and side extensions. 13350956_1052795711452359_1177177768_o The two-piece boom offers a reach of 7 metres at ground level from swivel centre to cutting edge (with long dipper) and that is without any tilt-rotator fitted.  Robert said “I just had a very short test and nothing but air to dig, but it felt very nice from that little test run. The machine was very smooth in operation and no problem at all when performing a simulated grading motion from full stretch, with no dipping going on. 13396752_1052795694785694_1594028338_o As an Engcon user in Sweden Robert was keen to check out some of the latest launches from the company, Robert said, “I focused my visit to the stand on the new Q-Safe Detachable (cassette) which in my eyes is the best innovation for many years, just imagine the possibility to remove the grab when you don’t need it”. 13388938_1052799674785296_1757035733_o Robert continued, “And the Sweeper Detachable that operates on the same system. This means that you can easily mount a brush in just a few minutes for cleaning a lawn from those last particles of dirt”. 13383421_1052799761451954_848545233_o “I can´t say anything bad about this but I haven´t seen the price and they don´t come in S40 size yet and I have S40 on both of my minis”. 13405388_1052799771451953_1830384046_o One of the most talked about machines this year was present on the JCB stand where the Hydradig was displayed complete with a Steelwrist tilt-rotator for a keen Swedish audience. Robert along with fellow visitor and contractor Conny Kolsjo took a closer look, Robert said, “I only got this one photo of the Hydradig, I must say it sure is a sports car! I took the opportunity to sit in the cab for a few minutes and I must say it’s a very interesting concept, especially for municipal and utilities work etc, only time will tell if it breaks through here”. 13405171_1052802441451686_969756044_o Swedish Volvo main dealer Swecon had plenty of big kit to show visitors including the new A60H articulated hauler fresh from its debut appearance at Bauma. Robert is seen here standing under the skip. 13383502_1052806094784654_1673025043_o Also on stand was the EC750E hydraulic excavator which will be making its UK premiere at the upcoming Hillhead mining and quarrying show. 13388875_1052806101451320_368952324_o On a smaller scale Volvo also displayed the recently launched 6 tonne class EW60E wheeled excavator (rubber duck). 13383976_1052806798117917_324469650_o Swedish Caterpillar dealer Pon took the opportunity to display a Cat D10T which had recently undergone a complete refurbishment, demonstrating the quality of their workmanship. Conny Kolsjo is seen in this shot stood by the machine. 13383695_1052807914784472_1058879436_o In this shot Robert stand next to the ripper tooth to give a comparison of size. 13405446_1052807731451157_897580672_o Danish manufacturer had lots of new models on show but this fully restored 1974 R 12 excavator was getting a lot of attention throughout the 3 days. This machine was based on a BM Volvo tractor unit and tipped the scales at 7.6 tonnes. 13396672_1052808188117778_377661386_o Check out this video from the show focusing on the Pon Caterpillar stand. Summarizing on this first event Robert said, “It was a good show but the organisers of MaskinExpo and Maskimässan need to sit down and talk to each other so we don´t get two shows with just one week separating them again in the future. Perhaps the best solution would be to alternate the shows every other year similar to like you guys have in the UK with Plantworx and Hillhead, that seems to work well”.
