New Liebherr models now available

First unveiled at Bauma 2025, the Generation 8 R 915 Compact, R 917 Compact and R 920 Compact models, aimed at the growing demand for versatile machines on urban construction and civil engineering projects, are now available and have been developed and built at Liebherr-France SAS in Colmar. Covering the important 15-20 tonne class, the range of excavators is designed for applications including earthmoving, road construction, utility installation and confined urban jobs.

A key addition is the all-new R 917 Compact G8, which bridges the gap between the R 915 and R 920 models. With a tail swing radius of just 1,700mm, the machine is designed to work efficiently in restricted spaces while maintaining lifting performance for applications such as pipeline installation and general construction.

All three models feature Liebherr's new emCAB operator's cab and INTUSI operating concept, offering an ergonomic workspace with customisable controls, high-precision electric joysticks and simplified access to key machine functions. The updated cab is designed to improve operator comfort while reducing fatigue during long shifts.

Power outputs range from 90kW (122hp) on the R 915 Compact G8 to 100kW (136hp) on the R 917 Compact G8 and 110kW (150hp) on the R 920 Compact G8. Liebherr says optimised hydraulics and machine kinematics deliver faster cycle times, higher digging forces and improved precision, while reducing the need to reposition the excavator on site.

Designed as multi-purpose machines, the new compact excavators can be equipped with a wide range of attachments and hydraulic tools, allowing contractors to tackle multiple applications with fewer machines and improve overall site efficiency.

Serviceability has also been improved, with routine maintenance points accessible from ground level to reduce downtime and help control operating costs.

The new Generation 8 machines are also fully compatible with Liebherr's digital services, including MyLiebherr Maintenance and Performance, allowing operators and fleet managers to monitor machine performance, plan servicing and optimise fleet utilisation. An open electronic architecture also prepares the excavators for future driver assistance systems and additional digital technologies.

With the launch of the new Generation 8 range, Liebherr is targeting contractors looking for compact machines that combine manoeuvrability with the performance and connectivity expected on today's construction sites.
