YEAR IN REVIEW: October 2020 issue

As the construction industry navigated mid autumn, news emerged that although machinery sales were down for the year, they'd bounced back in the third quarter - now just 17% below the same period in 2019 according to analysis conducted by the Construction Equipment Association. This was the positive sign that many in the industry were desperate to see, and October was certainly a busy month when it came to punchy news stories. Below are our selected highlights...

 

1) SISTERS BUILD PLANT HIRE BUSINESS

Three Leicestershire-based sisters are following in the footsteps of their father after securing funding to establish their new plant hire business, FinniGroup Ltd. Read more.

 

2) NEW HYDREMA 912G

October was a big month for Hydrema, as the company took the wraps of its brand new 912G dump truck with Stage 5 emissions-compliant Cummins engine. Read more.

 

3) MDiG DIGITAL CONSTRUCTION SOLUTIONS

MDiG is backed by Marubeni-Komatsu Ltd and provides businesses across the UK with technology solutions that optimise their construction sites. Read more.

 

4) EXCAVATOR FALLS DOWN SHAFT

Dramatic scenes at Chinese construction site as an unsuspecting Doosan excavator is dropped down a ventilation shaft. Somehow, nobody was injured in the incident. Read more.

 

5) BOBCAT GOES ON THE OFFENSIVE

Bobcat's largest ever product launch debuts a new wave of compact loaders, skid-steer loaders, compact tracked loaders, and impressive mini-excavators. Read more.

 

6) HYUNDAI DEALER EXPANDS TERRITORY

Willowbrook Plant Ltd, based in Corby in Northamptonshire, has expanded its territory to include Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. Read more.

 

7) MANITOU SHAKES UP DEALER NETWORK

Thurlow Nunn Standen and Robert Coates Plant Sales joined the Manitou dealer network, covering East Anglia, plus Staffordshire, Shropshire, Cheshire, Derbyshire and Manchester respectively. Read more.

 

8) POWELL STICKS WITH VOLVO

Surrey-based Powell Groundworks puts its faith in Volvo kit with the purchase of an E series ECR145 complete with Steelwrist tilt-rotator. This was the company's 15th Volvo machine! Read more.

 

9) LIEBHERR RESTORES 1960s LOADER

Shortly before revealing its new TA 230 ADT (you can read about that in the next Year in Review), Liebherr unveiled a stunning restoration of its last surviving LSL 1500 wheel loader prototype. Read more.

 

10) EXCAVATOR TURNED INTO ART EXHIBIT

Doosan supplies DX160W-5 16-tonne wheeled excavator for Prague art exhibit highlighting the importance of responsible behaviour by humans when it comes to the environment. Read more.

 

EARTHMOVERS MAGAZINE: OCTOBER 2020 ISSUE
