Archive Poclain shots discovered

I came across this series of black and white Poclain photos on Facebook recently and just had to share them here on the Digger Man Blog.

These classic photos feature some of the last true Poclain machines in action in 1987. The shots were posted on the excellent German Facebook page Historische Baumaschinen which focuses on machines dating from 1949 to the late 1980’s. Wheeled excavators have always been popular in central Europe. For Poclain France and Germany were hotbeds for selling wheeled excavators, but the company also had considerable success with wheeled units here in the UK. This Poclain 81P model is seen in action backfilling a trench with a clamshell grab which was always a popular attachment of choice in Europe.  The 81P weighed in at around the 15 tonne mark and this model is sporting Poclain’s variable geometry power sliding boom. In this brilliant shot we see the smaller 61P which had an operating weight of around 13 tons and which was eventually replaced in the latter Case Poclain range by the 688 model. This machine is of particular interest as it is sporting a knuckle boom arrangement and working with a V ditching bucket. Finally in this batch of shots we have another example of a Poclain 61P at work on a road excavation job. This machine once again features Poclains sliding boom option which was very technically advanced back in the day compared to some alternative options available from other manufacturers. Also of note in this shot is the Case 1150C tracked shovel in the background. I would like to thank the guys at Historische Baumaschinen for the use of these photos here on the Digger Man Blog.
