Cat 395 Endures Hard Rock & Heat

American construction equipment giant Caterpillar recently launched their Next Generation large excavators into the European market, but some examples elsewhere in the world have been working hard already.

Cat 395 Endures Hard Rock & Heat

Topping out the Cat large Next Gen excavator range is the 395 which is joined by the slightly smaller 374 and 352 models in the range.

The 395 which replaces the outgoing 390F model, was something of a show stopper on the Caterpillar stand at the Conexpo show in Las Vegas last year. The new model tips the scales at 207,300lbs and is powered by Cat’s own C18 diesel engine which produces a power output rating of 542hp (405kw).

Caterpillar also state that this machine is more productive than the old model, with an increase in swing torque of 10%. A further 10% increase in stick force helps to offer faster loading cycle times

These machines have been field follow tested in some of the most extreme conditions on earth and have high-ambient capability of up to 52°C (125°F) and cold start capability of -18°C (-0.4°F).

One example has been working for 10 months at the Stevin Rock mining and quarrying operation in the UAE enduring the ravages of the heat and hard rock excavation.
