Keeping the Dust Down, Down Under

It’s that dust suppression time of year again, especially now as muckshifting crews are returning to work gradually as we all still deal with the horrible spectre of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Keeping the Dust Down, Down Under

Water carts are all too often the unsung heroes of the muckshifting game, while it’s the guys and girls on the ADT’s, dumptrucks, excavators and motor scrapers that actually shift the muck, it’s the water cart drivers who make the working environment a bit more pleasant and safer for everyone.

Our friend Scott Lidster of Australian Earth Training was keen to tell us about a Brisbane based engineering company, TRS Engineering, owned by Troy Speedy, who specialise in the production of water cart modifications, primarily on Caterpillar equipment and he wanted to share some photos of these bespoke bits of kit with us.

According to Scott TRS is a fairly small player in the water cart business, but they’re really starting to make an impression on the domestic market with their stylish designs and the quality of the engineering work.

The company currently produce 9 different water cart solutions, ranging from the Caterpillar 730 articulated hauler model right up to the Caterpillar 651 based on the single engine motor scraper unit.

They also do mods for the Caterpillar 775 and 775G rigid dumptruck offerings, with water capacity of 48,000 litres.

ADT water capacities are as follows:

Cat 730 = 25,000 litres.

Cat 740 = 30,000 litres.

Cat 745 = 32,000 litres.

Scraper model capacities as follows:

Cat 621 = 30,000 litres.

Cat 651 = 50,000 litres.

This video from one of TRS Engineering's customers, Ezyquip Hire, shows their Cat 621H water cart solution.

The Digger Man Blog would like to thank Scott Lidster for sharing this material with us.
