Ollie adds a carrier basket

Over the years the Digger Man Blog has covered the many additions that owner operator Ollie Kitchin has added to his arsenal of attachments and once again he has sent in some photos of his latest addition a carrier basket.

Ollie adds a carrier basket
The standard UK approach to moving your items of kit around site is to try and sling them all up together somehow, or for those with a tilt-rotator and a set of forks hook the buckets on the forks and grab anything else you can with the gripper, but as Ollie says, “Why have this …. eRXfnt4T When you could easily have something like this”…… A carrier basket specially designed and manufactured for Ollie, according to his specifications, by Anross Excavator Attachments based in Consett, Co Durham. 04Xj4emf Talking about his new addition Ollie said, “I’ve been after something like this for a while now, due to the fact that working in single lane works along the hard shoulder of the motorway, there is not really any room to use my trailer which I would normally use to move my kit around. The batters can be pretty steep so parking it off the road is not really feasible and passing places are at a premium, as such I needed to come up with a solution to get around the problem”’ Gu3yvtsL Ollie continued, “I had seen a few things on the internet over in Sweden showing different set ups that people use over there, there seemed to be quite a few that are similar, but on the whole they all seem to have been made for a particular purpose for what that person is doing, as opposed to a standard one carrier fit all arrangement. So I just collated my ideas from what I had seen and put together what I was looking for”. IMG_9004 “I have also had it made so that it fits on my blade too, in the same way as my fork carriage does, but in addition it has integrated fork slots to give me even more flexibility as to how I can move it around. It’s so handy because there is not always a dumper or van in the link to move them for me from one end to the other and sods laws says you’ll always need a tool or bucket you haven’t got with you”. IMG_9002   “It will also be very handy for when I get moved on a low loader, just a simple lift on with the forks on the Engcon tilt-rotator and everything is on and ready to go, cutting down on time and just being able to be more efficient”. IMG_9005 The basket has also been fitted with lifting eyes on each corner, which can be used to hoist it when empty if required. Rod Leyland the owner of Anross also mounted a place for a vice, so the basket can act as a work bench if needed and also added an identification plate with Ollie’s surname cut into it which was a nice touch. The carrier basket floor is of open mesh design, one to keep the weight down, but most importantly so it won’t collect muck, debris or water. There is also a kick board around the bottom to stop anything falling out, which will make it handy for the ground crew to put small tools in without fear of them dropping out in transit. The whole unit weighs in at just over 500kgs. Such is the speed of social media these days, photos of Ollie's latest piece of kit have already broken cover on Twitter, but true to form I like to think we have brought a bit of more in depth look at the new product and Ollie's reasoning behind this latest investment. We thank Ollie for sharing his photos with us here on the Digger Man Blog.
