Scrapers get connected in the cut

We’ve all seen two scrapers in action in a push pull type scenario, but how many of us have seen three in action?

I was recently made aware of this video by keen Digger Man Blog reader Gary Major and I figured it was worthy of a spot here on the blog. Some years ago now I was very lucky to be given the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a Cat 627G motor scraper during a visit to Cat’s demonstration and learning centre in Malaga, where I was made aware of the benefits of using the push/pull feature in suitable ground conditions, but I had never seen or expected to see three motor scrapers being put to work in this way. In this video clip filmed in 2011 at Hells Half Acre in Idaho, we see the three larger Caterpillar 637’s all getting connected on a downhill topsoil strip operation. It’s a relatively unseen way of operating large twin engine motor scrapers and I guess one would have to ask if it was really necessary, but nevertheless it’s a spectacle that’s worth seeing.
